The simple calculation is about the same as you said. However, a false diviner tend to divine his partner as a human not to suspect his partner.So the possibility that ホレーショ was a human wasn't so high.
His reaction was sincere...? There are too many contradictions in your statement.
You trusted too much the one who believed in the false one(for you) for no reason.
Your point of view is totally from the one who didn't know アシモフ is a false diviner.
